482 Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (TSS)

The Australia Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (Subclass 482) is a pivotal channel for skilled foreign workers to contribute their expertise to the Australian workforce in areas experiencing skill shortages. This visa category enables employers to address immediate skill gaps by hiring overseas workers for a specified period.

Once an employer is approved to be a sponsor, they can nominate an overseas worker to fill their skilled position.  The applicant then applies for a Subclass 482 visa.

The 482 Visa for Australia enables skilled people to work in Australia on a temporary basis.

Requirements To Apply For TSS Visa (Subclass 482)

To apply for the TSS Visa Subclass 482 in Australia, you must meet the following conditions:

  • The foreign worker must be nominated to work in an occupation listed on the Department of Home Affairs website.
  • Have at least two years of experience in the field of employment.
  • Only work for the company or employer who is sponsoring them.
  • Have minimum English Language skills unless there are exemptions.
  • If required, have a skills assessment for their occupation.

The Skilled Nominated Visa also offers a great pathway for skilled workers to settle in specific regions of Australia. It’s ideal for those who want to support local growth and build a long-term future in Australia.

At K1 Migration can assist with your pathway and address the specific requirements you may have.

Types Of TSS Subclass 482 Visa

The 482 Visa has three different streams. Which one fits your situation best? Let’s find out!

Short-Term Stream

The Short-Term Stream allows someone to stay up to two years, or four years if an International Trade Obligation is applicable.

On this stream, the occupation should be part of the short-term skilled occupations list

Long-Term Stream

The Medium-Term Stream (MTS) allows up to four years of stay in Australia. After that, a person has the option to apply for another Visa or apply for permanent residency.

Your occupation is on either the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or the Regional Occupation List (ROL)

Labour Agreement Stream

Like the MTS Visa, the Labour Agreement Stream allows up to four years of stay with the option to apply again or go for Permanent Residency.

An employer must have a labour agreement with the government.
